Located
in Collinsville, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, Paula O'Keefe
has been breeding Spanish Arabians since 1985. Dedication to the
preservation of the pure Spanish Arabian is the main objective of the breeding
program at O'K Arabian Farms. The beautiful *LA Saguro (Nagasaki
x *Safia) came into Paula's life in 1989. A gorgeous bay stallion,
*Saguro sired many beautiful foals for Paula and other breeders interested
in Spanish bloodlines. His untimely death in 1996 left Paula devastated
as she had developed the type of bond with *Saguro that comes along once
in a lifetime. She considers herself extremely lucky to have three
of his daughters and a son to carry on his legacy.
*LA Saguro departed in 1996, but left Paula a final remembrance of himself.
Her last *Saguro foal was a beautiful bay replica of himself who was foaled
in 1997. He is Don de Lante (*LA Saguro x Viva Condesa).
Don de lante has had limited showing at halter, but entered the show world
with a huge bang! As a two year old, and at his first show no less,
he won his class and went on to be named Grand Champion Stallion.
He has now begun his performance training and looks as if he will do as
well at Western Pleasure as he did in Halter.

Aerik (*Barich de Washoe x *Abha Perica) was acquired in 1991 as
a potential cross for the *Saguro daughters. He produced an exceptionally
beautiful filly when bred to the *Safia daughter, BPL Tia Safia, so Paula
knew the cross would work. But *Saguro's failing health postponed
this cross as the *Saguro fillies reached breeding age. Instead,
Paula wanted as many *Saguro foals as possible before he was out of her
life and so bred her mares to him. Aerik was shown to halter and
hunter championships in his youth. He truely is the type of horse
they speak of when they refer to a "tent Arab".
Paula located *Zaon (Jacio x Onza) by searching through The Registry's
CD-ROM. Recognizing *Zaon's precious bloodlines, Paula was eager
to incorporate his bloodlines with her mares. *Zaon had been hidden
away in the hills of Idaho and had not bred any straight Spanish mares.
His purchase was negotiated and in the late summer of 1998, *Zaon entered
Paula's life. In the spring of 1999, he was bred to several of Paula's
mares as well as to outside mares, all of which were straight Spanish.
The foals born in the spring of 2000 validated Paula's instincts that he
would be a valueable addition to her herd. All of the owners of *Zaon's
2000 foal crop have expressed great satisfaction with his foals.
Another Spanish gentleman was yet to grace the scene at O'K Arabian
Farms. In the late fall of 1999, Paula was approached by Adriene
Watkins about the possibility of standing *Sasaki (Nagasaki x *Safia)
at her farm. Because *Sasaki was a full brother to her beloved
*Saguro, Paula was well aware of his bloodlines and the quality offspring
that he had produced. A deal was struck and *Sasaki arrived around
Christmas. The response to a limited advertising campaign has been
outstanding and next year there will be *Sasaki foals across the country.
Paula feels that like *Saguro, *Sasaki's forte` is as a broodmare sire.
He not only passes his Spanish qualities to his offspring, but they carry
on to his grandchildren as well. *Sasaki is the grandsire of the
1998 National Champion, Magnum Psyche.
Paula and Michael invite ya'll out to see their straight Spanish "children".
There are *Sasaki fillies, *Saguro daughters, as well as two weanling *Zaon
fillies. And of course, the boys!
